Losing network on workgroup

Well I have looked at networking posts, but this is really irritating.

I have a wireless network router :belkin Mimo... it works fine and shows
both laptops under the DHCP Client list. When I start the laptops, (Both XP
Home) they are fine and see eachother and I can print to the network printer,
connected via USB to one of them. But after they have been on for a time, the
workgoup doesnt see them on each laptop, thus no network function is
available. The wireless router on the other hand still has them both as
clients. Why does it do this - the only way i seem to fix this is by
restarting each laptop, which is annoying.

Hi Drew,

How many laptops are involved? I'd bet that you have a classic master browser
conflict. If each laptop is running the browser, and one ever goes out of range
of the other, the one that is NOT the master browser will elect itself a master
browser at that time. When the two then go back into range, they will each be
their own master browser, and neither will see the other. This is called a
segmented workgroup.

If you have just 2 laptops, the solution is simple. Disable the browser on one,
since you can't browse without the two being connected (visible) to each other
anyway. If you have more than 2, it's a bit more complex. Read the above
article for background.

Thanks for your quick reply, but I am not sure if I understand - I have just
the 2 on the network.... But what do you mean by browser?... Do you mean web
browser?.. How can I disable it?

Please read the article, it explains everything I could say here, and more. And
no, it's not Internet Explorer.
