Losing mind on network issue

Upgraded to XP Pro to fix this problem, but it is still happening:

At any given time, I have as many as 6 users (2000, XP PRo and XP Home)
trying to access the machine running XP Pro.

I keep getting from different users (seemingly randomly) the message that
"There are already as many connections as this computer can handle".

The one who's complaining right now is using Windows Pro 2000.

I checked "Manage" under My Computer, and there are only 7 client
connections currently listed under "Shares". In addition, there are only 4
sessions currently displayed.

Please help.

No More Connections Can Be Made At This Time
No more connections can be made at this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept.

Symptom: If you are using a computer that is running Windows NT or later in a peer to peer network, you may receive the following error message:

No more connections can be made at this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept.

If you are using a computer that is running Windows 95, you may receive the following error message:

This request is not accepted by the network. Try again later.

Cause: 1. You may be attempting to connect to a share that is configured to allow a specific number of connections, and that number of connections has been reached. Check the properties on the share on the server.

2. The maximum number of other computers that are permitted to simultaneously connect over the network to Windows NT Workstation 3.5, 3.51, 4.0, and Windows 2000 Professional is ten.

This doesn't help. The share is not set to limit the number of connections
to it. The limitation I think I'm running into is the Win XP Professional,
which is supposed to be 10 connections...but it's acting like it's limited to
7 or 8. Are there hidden connections I can't see?

The inbound connection limits are for *connections*, not *computers*.
One computer can make several connections to a server. You should
replace the WinXP Pro box with a server os. Here are some links to
help:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=314882 - Inbound connections limit in
XP

concurrent connections:

10 for XP Pro/Tablet/MCE
5 for XP Home
49 for SBS 2000
74 for SBS 2003
Unlimited for full Server O/Ses
