Losing Ctrl key action

This looks a bit obscure, and may not even be an XP issue. But maybe
it rings a bell with someone here. Recently I've found that operations
requiring the use of the Ctl key combined with the Arrow Down or Arrow
Up key have stopped working. After reboot it's OK for a while. So far
I've not found a cause. Any ideas please?

Instead of reboot, try log off/on and see if that cures it. Maybe some
third party software causes this?

Spilled anything on the keyboard?

If not a laptop, try another keyboard.
