Lose network connection after Standby

I have a laptop that loses it's network connection after
returning from Standby mode. OS is XP Professional, SP1.
How can I prevent this from happening?

It's common for network cards or their driver programs to have
problems when returning from Standby. Other than not going into
Standby in the first place, a possible solution is to disable the
network connection before going into Standby and enable it after
returning.
