Loosing relationships when opening a database

It seems that all but two (??????) of the relationships are lost when I open
my database. When I exit the database the system automatically
compacts-and-repairs so now, with so few relationships, it gets rid of all
the relationship pointers and can reduce the size of the database.

When I look at some older copies of the BE I can see the relationships.

If I go to the properties on the BE and look at previous versions there is a
view button which opens the selected previous version "read-only". They stay
at 19.xx but the ones I tried don't show all the relations. Although this
says "read only" I'm nervous that I might be harming these when I open them
too.

Any ideas why this might be happening and how I can fix this problem?

Thanks!

First turn off Compact on Close - now.

Second I saw similar problems with Access throwing away changes to forms and
reports even when they were compiled. I didn't check on Relationships though.
When I turned off Compact on Close, the problem went away - until I manually
compacted the the database then it happened again.

- It wasn't just a corrupt database as it happened on all databases. Also it
didn't happen on other PCs.

- All updates and service releases were applied.

- Uninstalling and reinstalling Office didn't help.

- Found instructions on completely uninstalling Office as it leaves
fragments. That didn't help.

- Finally wiped the hard drive; reinstalled the OS and everything else
including Office. That was the fix. ;-(

Now as it's the BE that's giving you problems, you might have a hard time
finding out which PC(s) are causing the problem IF your problem is the same
as mine.

Are you talking about viewing the relationships in the front end?

They don't matter if you have a split system. Since each user has their own
front end, then it would not make sense to set relationships in the front
end (which front end would rule??).

It is not clear if you are talking about the BE, or the front end here?

The relationships in the FE really don't matter...it is alwasy the back end
that counts....
