More info on my previous post. Full antivirus scan
brings up nothing. The explorer.exe uses 50% of my CPU
usage every 10 to 15 seconds even though no applications
are running. Could be the power needed to generate the
message. When I run an application such as Norton CPU
usage is a constant 100% and the process cannot be ended
without a shutdown.

I disabled message reporting so now the computer screen
flashes, all icons disappear and then reappear every 10
seconds.

I noticed a similar post back on 8/21. ssg suggested
using the Windows file scan. This computer did not come
with an XP Home cd, only a restore disc....Compaq! How
can I make a set of discs so I can insert upon prompt
when running sfc /scannow?

Thanks for your help.

.
The Microsoft service pack one is available on a CD for
only $9.95 and it has all the system files on it which are
needed by the system file checker tool, and that CD is
also bootable as well.
