I am a fairly technically capable person. I administrator several systems
for the organization I work for.
I have not had a need to learn MS Access to any degree up until now, I have
dinked around and done a few simple things. So I would like some direction
from the Access Community on a book or course that I could use to move
quickly from beginner to fairly complex task using MS Access.

Also I would like a good book on the Functions that are built into Access
and how to use them, any thoughts there.

Looking to build some complex quires and I need a good handle on quires and
functions within Access.

Welcome your thoughts..
Harold

In addition to Wayne's recommendations, I also recommend "Access Database
Design and Programming" by Steven Roman, published by O'Reilly, and
"Designing Relational Database Systems" by Rebecca Riordan. The first
edition of the latter, published by Microsoft Press, is out of print, but
you can often find used copies for sale at Amazon. A second edition is
planned, but I don't know when it will be published.

"Beginning Access 97 VBA Programming", by Robert Smith and David Sussman,
published by Wrox, is a good beginner's intro to the subject. (There are
later editions of this book available, for Access 2000 and 2002). The Access
Developer's Handbook, which Wayne mentions, is an invaluable resource for
Access developers, but it is not aimed at beginners, it assumes that you
already know the basics. So if you are new to VBA programming, I recommend
the Wrox book first, as a primer before moving on to the ADH.

Rick Dobson's "Programming Microsoft Access Version 2002" is also a very
good intermediate to advanced programming book. There is an Access 2003
edition of that book available too.
