Hi
I do not see security as an issue of a list but an Understanding the issues and how to
implement them to the specific Computer/Network.
The security setting might be totally different from one computer to another or and from
one Network to the other.
I found the general list to be “Dangerous” you might end up that a person disables some
thing that is needed for a specific installation and then spends hours (or days) to find
out why the Connection or the Network do not work.
Protecting from outside attacks is relatively simple, any Entry Level Cable/DSL Router
would do it for you (in the USA they go for less than $20 on sales).
I install a Router on every Broadband Internet connection even if it is feeding a single
computer.
In addition I install a Security Suit that includes Software Firewall, AntiVirus, and
AntiSpyware.
Which Suit? It depends on the specific installation.
If you decide that you always going to install the same Router and the same suit you can
write for yourself a checklist pertaining to the specific Hardware / Software that you
use.
