Howdy,

Problem: I'm always struggling between my email between work and home
especially finding particular 'sent' emails, only to discover I've sent them
from the other point
than where I'm at when I need an email.

My solution: I intend to use the same PST's between both computers-
a sort of poor mans MAPI....
I've got a solid, strong, consistent VPN running between work and home,
and I have copied and put my PST folder from work on a network folder
located on my home PC
I can access them rather decently, large emails downloaded mean it comes
from my mail server, to me at work, and stored at home, all through the same
pipe, and checking my email which used to be a 1-2 minute affair now can
take 8, but I'm MORE than willing to take the performance hit to only have
one email store to deal with... I had to pare down and clean out a lot of
junk, (making the file sizes more managable) but it works..

BEFORE I try and access that PST file from here at home, are their any other
points I should consider? I don't want to mess up any indexes (if any) that
may exist say, in reg keys or elsewhere.

I do have one account on my PC at work that I don't have here at home, I'd
prefer to leave it that way---

does anyone have any reccomendations/suggestions for me prior to proceeding
(yes, I have backups of all pst files, but I'd LOVE to get this right....)

It works..
I just stress tested it more than I would have believe.

using Remote desktop companion, I logged onto my work machine
and it works from both ends.. dang I'm happy.

kinda convuluted. I'm at home on cablemodem, I pulled my desktop from work
on DSL
(through two routers) and opened outlook, which tunneled back through the
first router-directly to my router at home, pulled data off the PST files on
the routers NAS firewire drive, sent it back through the two routers, into
the PC at work, which RDC sent back through the two routers, to my screen at
home.

dang slow, but I know it works at both ends, changes made here go there and
vice versa

and at that, at home I have outlook 2002, and at work 2003

and it works! same datafiles, either location!

Can anyone suggest how I might merge my to 'sent' folders?

Yikes! I hope you make good back-ups of your pst-file as you're up for some
serious corruption any time soon. Pst-files were never designed to be
accessed from a networkshare leave alone through what you have setup. Note
that Microsoft doesn't support this either. Anyway, since you got it to work
so far; you can create a rule that copies the message to your pst-file when
you send it.

If you make the delivery location the same PST for both Outlooks, then all
folders will be used the same way and when you send from either place, your
Sent Items folder will be the same folder.

Do you have Exchange at work? If so, you're better off making that the
delivery location and not using a PST at all. That should work with no
worry for data corruption.
