Hi,

Some months ago my computer started having a delay once
Windows XP Pro loaded. I waited till yesterday to format
and things seemed to be ok until I loaded Norton System
Works 2003 and connected to the Internet.

As soon as I rebooted from installed Norton I had the
same stupid delay again.

I don't know at what point I received the worms but the
first thing I did once I installed Norton System Works
was to update my virus def.

I instantly started having problems with the Blaster Worm
but I got it removed only to find that I also had the
Welchia Worm, which I have also removed.

Does anyone know what could be the problem? Is this a
left over symptom of the worms or is this a Norton
problem???

Thanks,
Joshua

Hi Joshua,

You may or may not have had the worms before installing Nortons (I suspect
you already had them and updating it allowedyou to identify and remove
them), but Nortons itself has been known to bog a system down. Try using
just the AV and firewall, disable everything else (all the utilities) and
see if it helps. Alternately, uninstall it and see if the system response
returns to normal.

Hi,

I just formatted my computer for the second time today. I
now know that the problem has NOTHING to do with Norton
or the Worms. I downloaded the patch before formatting so
I had my computer protected. But this what I found out.

When I installed my DSL modem I shut down right away and
my problems started. So this delay has something to do
with my DSL modem or connection.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Joshua

Hi Joshua,

Are you enabling the firewall before connecting the machine to the dsl
modem? If not, then your system is being deluged by a host of worms and
trojans, and some of them are getting through.
