Logon Troubles

Scott Ward

Has anyone experienced problems with XP Pro where it logs you on and then
immediately saves the settings and logs you back off. It is in a loop state
and whether I have the guy try to login with his account or administrator,
it does the same thing!

Thanks,

I appreciate the response Cherry!

Problem is that whether he boots into safe mode or normal mode and try to
login, it starts the logon process and before he even sees the main desktop
window, it reports "saving all settings" and then switches back to the login
window.

Any ideas here?

He made the comment that he installed Kazaa and it setup file sharing and
pulled all of his files into the file sharing window where he started
deleting them - doh! So, I ran him through the install/repair mode which
had problems installing 6 files - can't remember which ones they were. I am
about 60 miles from this user and discussing over the phone, so my responses
only come after working with him.

Again, thank,
Scott

Hi Scott,

Thank you for the posting again.

As you indicated this issue also occurs in Safe Mode when the user log on.

In order to verify if this is related to the specific user profile, please
create a new user account and log on this new user to test this log on
issue.

If other new user account log on correctly, this issue is only related to
the specific user profile. Possibly, the user profile is damaged. You need
to create a New User and restore the profile. As for more detailed steps
on how to do so, please refer to this knowledge base article:

If other new user has the same log on problem, please refer to the
following knowledge base article and contact Microsoft Product Support
Services to obtain the fix

Hope the above information and suggestion helps and answers your question.
If anything is unclear, please let me know.

I would love to try and create another profile, but don't think that is the
issue. When trying to log in as user or administrator, computer does the
same thing. We are not able login to the desktop at all! Computer starts
to login and then immediately switches to saving settings and takes him back
to the logon box.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Scott
