Hey all,
Whenever I start up my pc, I get a screen asking me to logon. I have no user
accounts setup. Before I used to hit the power switch and the pc would boot
up all the way until it got to the desktop now though, I get a screen with
the word "Owner" in the username box and it's waiting for a password. The
password field is empty and if I click on "OK", it continues to boot up as
normal but I have people in the house who aren't computer literate and won't
know what to do at this screen. Can anyone help with me with removing this
window which has suddenly appeared?

Hi,

I'm betting you installed the .net framework update. It creates a new user
account, and causes this issue.

Start/run "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes).

Uncheck the box requiring a username and password, click apply/ok and follow
the prompts to set up a default logon.

Download tweakUI, which is part of XP's Power Toys, it has a heading
called log on, where you can tell it to log on automatically.

Good luck

I'm gonna download this power toy but I would preferably like a fix that
didn't involve installing more software. Has to be something somewhere in
the pc configuration cos it wasn't doing this before...any more ideas?
Thanks for the ideas so far!! :)

Just also had a look at the powertoys and I can't find this logon option
that you mentioned. The download is made up of a series of separate modules
and I'm not sure which one to download.

You need to get tweakui.

I had the problem too - to fix with no additional software - type the following after hitting start - then the run command
control userpasswords

Uncheck the box requiring a username and password, click apply/ok and follo
the prompts to set up a default logon

Do not select administrater - or the computer will boot to the login screen and stop - leaving you no easy way to get in. If this happens and you have XP home you will have to boot into safe mode (hit F8 after BIOS loads) and type in control userpasswords2 at the user command - only this time select a user

If you do not want a password - do not type one in
Good luck
