I have the same problem that others have posted. I have Windows XP Home SP2,
have MS Firewall and am connected to the internet through a university LAN.
I have SystemSuite Virus software from VCom and Ad-Aware. From the XP
Welcome screen, when I try to logon, it immediately logs off. This happened
four days ago when auto updater downloaded the latest XP patch. After I came
back to my computer the screen was garbled and the computer had apparently
crashed on reboot after installing the update. It took several reboots to
fix that, then when I finally got to the XP Welcome screen it did the
logon-logoff thing. This happens in safe mode, debugging mode, etc. I DID
NOT RUN ANY ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE OR ADAWARE BEFORE THIS HAPPENED! I ONLY
DOWNLOADED MICROSOFT'S LATEST (DAILY) SECURITY PATCH!

I tried the following, but when I restart Windows the same thing happens.

have you tried to do a system restore?....on boot up keep pressing F 8 to go
into safe mode...when it loads go to start/programmes/accessories/system
tools/system restore......choose a restore point from before it happened and
click ok....your system should now go back to how it was before it messed up..

We I go in to safe mode the welcome screen comes up. I try to login and the
same thing happens. So I cannot get to system restore. I also tried "Last
Good Configuration". No good. Login/Logoff, Login/Logoff...
