I am trying to set up Messenger to connect to an exchange
server. I have followed step-by-step instructions on
both the client and the server. However, when I try to
sign on I get the error message
"Signing into Communications Service failed because the
service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again
later.

Retry | Cancel"

Please help!

Greetings,

Are you sure you've selected the right options? The Communications Service is for SIP-Based
Communications Services like Live Communications Server, not Exchange.

If you want to use Exchange, click the Tools menu, then Options, then Accounts tab, and
choose the appropriate checkbox.

If you don't see this option, you'll need to upgrade to Windows Messenger 5.x:

Are you using the correct format of the IM login id
according to what's set up on your Exchange server?

From another machine with working IM account, do a search
and add the contact (of the account you are originally
trying to log in as) and see what comes up from the
Exchange server. Then use that one.
