My xp computer is suddenly acting strange in the fact
that when either myself or my wife go to log off each
others accounts the computer gets to a point of logging
one side off and then instead of going to the welcome
screen to shut down ...it simply shows whichever desktop
photo of whichever side you are logging off from and
nothing else therefore there are now no buttons or any
tabs to hit to log off...All you can do is a hard
shutdown of the system and restart to get back on ...It
does not matter whether one person is logged on or both
with fast user switching enabled .. I know this is a long
drawn out question but it is kind off baffling at best...

Running xp home,,Norton security and antivirus,,all
windows updates including sp2 installed...Webroot's spy
sweeper.. Intel 2.8 with hyperthreading ...1 gig of
ram..intel 865perl motherboard....

Any help would be as always appreciated

Hi,

Just a thought. Please see if the Fast user switching is turned on. If it
s turned on. Please turn off. Restart the system manually and then turn on
the Fast User Switching.

Maybe when you switch, is there a blue screen with message when the system
reboots.

Prevent system from restarting
==========================
1. My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced tab
2. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings button
3. Uncheck "Automatically restart"

Now try to switch the user and if the system restarts, you might get a blue
screen. Please post what the blue message. If no blue screen, proceed with
the methods as follows:

Method 1:
=========
Fast user switching is dependent on 2 services namely "Terminal Services"
and "Fast User Switching Compatibility". Please proceed as follows:

1. Click Start -> Run
2. Type "services.msc" (without quotes)
3. See if the services "Terminal Services" and "Fast User Switching
Compatibility" is started. If the service is not started, please set the
startup type to "Automatic"

Method 2:
=========
This is a registry fix for FSU to work properly.

Please copy the lines to a text editor like notepad and save the file as
FSUFIX.reg. Then double click the file.

This fix is not complete. However, may work for some. That said, not all
users know how to create a .reg file.

Go to Start/Run and type in: services.msc
Scroll down to Terminal Services and Fast User Switching and make sure they
are Started.

Restore Fast User Switching (Line 34)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Hi,

Just a thought. Please see if the Fast user switching is turned on. If
it
s turned on. Please turn off. Restart the system manually and then turn on
the Fast User Switching.

Maybe when you switch, is there a blue screen with message when the system
reboots.

Prevent system from restarting
==========================
1. My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced tab
2. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings button
3. Uncheck "Automatically restart"

Now try to switch the user and if the system restarts, you might get a
blue
screen. Please post what the blue message. If no blue screen, proceed
with
the methods as follows:

Method 1:
=========
Fast user switching is dependent on 2 services namely "Terminal Services"
and "Fast User Switching Compatibility". Please proceed as follows:

1. Click Start -> Run
2. Type "services.msc" (without quotes)
3. See if the services "Terminal Services" and "Fast User Switching
Compatibility" is started. If the service is not started, please set the
startup type to "Automatic"

Method 2:
=========
This is a registry fix for FSU to work properly.

Please copy the lines to a text editor like notepad and save the file as
FSUFIX.reg. Then double click the file.

Kelly...I did check services.msc and found that both are
set to started and (startup type)manual should it be
changed to automatic ??

This fix is not complete. However, may work for some. That said, not all
users know how to create a .reg file.

Go to Start/Run and type in: services.msc
Scroll down to Terminal Services and Fast User Switching and make sure they
are Started.
