When I have 2 or more users logged on and I try to log off
oneuser, Windows tells me it's saving my settings, then
goes back to my desktop picture without icons or a start
button. My mouse still moves but there's no way for me to
switch to another user...I have to power down the computer
to restart it. I've used Windows XP on my laptop for 2
years and never had this problem. Thanks for any advice.

Hi Sue,

I think what you are trying to do is use the Fast User Switching screen.
What you want to do is the following:

Start - Control Panel - User Accounts
Click on "Change the way users logon and logoff"
Make sure the box is checked for "Use the Welcome screen" and "Use Fast User
Switching"
After this, you will be able to swtich users without logging the user off.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.
