Logging off/ turning off the computer

I'm finding that its taking the computer up to 5 minutes to log off/turn off
the computer at the end of a session. Any ideas? It's not every time, but
usually if I've been online.
 
See if there any running applications after you exit the internet , is it a
full time connection or dial up because it sounds like a trojan is running in
the background still connecting to the web. Run a virus scan and a spyware
adaware programs to see if you are infected.

Confirm that the online logoff has been completed. Otherwise,
the OS will wait for the next timeout to log itself off. IOW,
logoff manually before shutting down, e.g., terminating VPN
prior to shutdown or disconnecting the mapped drive before
shutdown, etc.
