Since downloading Vista SP1, when I exit Windows Mail, I am often told that
Windows Mail has shut down and it starts again. Any solution?

Vista SP1 tends to trigger some programs that occasionally cause problems
in Windows Mail. What if any programs, antispyware programs, firewall
programs, and other security programs do you have? Do you have the
Google Toolbar program installed? If you have any programs with SMS
in their names, tell us their full names.

I'm running under Vista SP1, and don't have the same problem.

I have the latest Norton Security Centre and the Firewall in that is on; it
also has spyware protection. I see that the Firewall for Vista is also on. I
also have the Google Toolbar. I can experiment with turning them off but do
you have an opinion as to which might be the most likely culprit? I have also
had some unexplained crashes since downloading SP1.

Norton is a hideous program. That would be my first suggestion. Removing
it completely will result in your computer increasing performance by about
30 % and your mail software will actual work as it is supposed to. See also
point 3 here and the section on WinMail: www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3
