Logging Off and Switching Users

We have two administrator user accounts. Computer does not allow us to
either log off or switch users. We go "Start", then "log off" or "switch
user" or "Turn off" and nothing happens. No error message, no information
window. The user currently logged on works as per normal but just doesn't
respond to logging off, switching users or turning off. This appears
intermittent and happens on either account.

We have Windows XP sp2 updates up to date, Office (student/teacher edition)
and not much else (except for clips, music, word files etc.) so we do not
have anything not from microsoft. This began to happen shortly after
purchase and setup of our computer (approx Sept 2004). Nobody appears to
have heard of our problem. We have not changed any strange settings or
configurations. The only way to get out of a user account seems to be to
hold down the power button (reboot), then it works for a while, then suddenly
happens again.

Help!

Hey, I have a question about this stuff too. It's not about rebooting though.
I would like to be able to Switch Users and not have to log off everytime
someone else needs to use my laptop. I have gone into the Control Panel and
looked to see if there is anything that could help me, but nothing looked
promising so I did not fiddle with it. I now come here to ask for help. If
there's anything you can do to help me with this, I would much appreciate it.
Thanks!

That doesn't work. When I click on the "Log Off" button it just asks me if I
want to Log Off. There is no option to switch users.
