I have a windows xp pro workstation that either had or has a virus. I am able
to login but it logs me out right away before having a chance of doing
anything. Even starting in safe mode has the same result.

Anyone know a fix besides a total reinstallation?

If you don't find a better solution, you might want to consider
the following:

Log on with the built-in Adminstrator account. Since you're
running XP Pro, the easiest way to do this would be to hit Ctrl
+ Alt + Del twice at the Welcome Screen. This should bring up
the "Logon to Windows" dialog box. You can enter Adminstrator
in the User Name box and a password if needed.

If you think the problem you're having is cause by a virus, you
should be able to run a scan with your AV program while logged
in as the Adminstrator. You can also run the following scans:

AdAware

Spybot S & D
http://www.spychecker.com/program/spybot.html

Next, you might want to visit some of the online virus scanners
and see what they find:

Run both the AntiVirus and the AntiSpyware scan on this site:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Click on the "Scan your PC button" while holding down the CTRL
key (to override any popup stoppers):

McAfee FreeScan

Symantec Security Check
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?productid=symhome&langid=ie&venid=sym

If after scanning for problems, you're still not able to log in
with your own account, you might want to try the following:

Go to Control Panel -> User Accounts and create a new user
account for yourself.
Next, logon to the computer with this new account.
Log off and log back on with the Adminstrator account.
Follow this procedure to copy info from your old user account
into the new account:

If none of the above info helps, try a repair installation:

Good luck

This article usually fixes your login troubles.

You cannot log on to Windows XP after you remove Wsaupdater.exe

Like I said in my original post, I can't login, it doesn't matter what
account I use, if I login locally or with a domain, or starting up in safe
mode. I login and it immidately logs me right back out again.
