3 machines with xp pro and networked router. Is it resonable to have auto log-on and if so, how the heck do i do it? Just looking to make things uniform and easy, without too much danger.

Hi -

You asked for an opinion, so I'm gonna express one ;-)

Bypassing security for convenience is a real judgement
call - if you wanted to be as secure as you could
possibly be you'd install a removable hard drive in your
machine and take it with you wherever you went. Anything
less is a compromise - and only you can determine whether
the risk is worth the convenience ;-)

The easiest way to enable auto-logon is to install
TweakUI - it's an unsupported MS powertoy that has a few
other really spiffy features - you can find it here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys
..asp

You can also make the changes in Control Panel --> User
Accounts like this:

1. Go to Start --> Run and enter "control userpasswords2"
(no quotes) in the text box and click OK.
1. Select the "Users" tab.
2. Clear the "Users must enter a user name and password
to use this computer" checkbox.
3. Select the "Advanced" tab.
4. Clear the "Require users to press Ctrl-Alt-Del before
logging on" checkbox.
5. Press "Apply".
6. A dialog box will open asking you for a user name and
password - input the information into these fields.
7. Click "OK".
8. Click on Start Menu again.
9. Open Control Panel --> User Accounts
10. Click "Change the way users log on or off".
11. Clear checkbox for "Use the Welcome Screen".
12. Clear checkbox for "Use Fast User Switching".
13. Click the "Apply Options" button.

Hope this helps -
