When my friend started windows he just turned on the
machine.
But now it is asking for a password under
username 'administrator' but he never used a password.

you can not enter windows without the password

How can I get around it to enter windows?

Assuming that you are running W2K, unless you have set up

another account to use I know of no way.
 
Try just pressing "enter". You may be lucky. If it still locks you out, do an "inplace
upgrade".
