Log on to Windows

Unlike my previous laptop my desktop requires me to enter a password to download email. In an attempt to allow me to download without the need to enter my password I have inadvertantly reconfigured my computer, so that I now need to enter a name and password to log on to Windows. [Previously I simply turned on the computer]

Having used every possible combination of my user name and passwords I am unable to log on. Will System Restore solve the problem and if so how can it be activated unless I can log on to Windows without using a valid password

Any suggestions plesae?
