Howdy,

I just added a network printer as my default on my laptop...

But, when I try to print, I get an error telling me that I
don't have "access."

At that point, if I attempt to browse files on the system
that had the printer attached to it, I must log on. (That
system is Win 2000 Pro.)

Once logged on, I can print.

How can I arrange things so that I am automatically logged
on so that I can print seamlessly?

Sincere thanks,

So this isn't a true network printer, but one connected locally to a Windows
2000 machine? Make sure that you have created identical user accounts and
passwords on both the laptop and the Win2k box. If you hadn't created a
password on your machines before, do so now and make it something you'll
remember.

You can set the laptop to log in automatically afterwards if you like. See:

Configure Windows to Automatically Login (MVP Ramesh) -
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm

After you've created identical usernames/passwords on both machines, go to
the Win2k box and find the entry for the printer in the Printers applet.
Right-click on it and make sure it is shared for everyone.
