Hi,
I have a windows XP Pro machine. The usual log on process is through the
quick method. (the users have an icon on the screen and I click on the
relevant one and that user loads up). This morning when I have started my
machine that option has gone and now I get the username and password option.
I have logged on and then tried to change the log on method in user accounts
back to the quick method but the option is not available. Sorry if this is a
bit vague but I am not sat at that computer at the moment.

How can I change the log on option back to the quick method?

Cheers

Hi,

This usually happens when a network protocol is installed that doesn't
support the Welcome screen logon. Something like netware is a common one.
Have you installed any lately? Check the properties of your internet
connection.

Do what Nutcase suggested. You can also try to switch it back to use the
Welcome Screen (the nice little icon one).

-Start -> Control Panel
-Double click User Accounts
-Select the option Change the way users log on or off
-Check the "Use the Welcome Screen" option and reboot

Thanks,
I haven't installed anything recently and (so I am told) nor has anybody
else on the computer. I am unable to switch back as I get an error message
telling me that the netware protocol has disabled the welcome screen option.

I have tried something that I should have done straight away and that is a
system restore - I tool it back a week or so and the problem is now sorted.
Thanks for the advise but I would still like to know how to get it sorted
manually.

Cheers
Lenny
