I newby network admin I hired somehow managed to get the "log on locally"
right on an XP workstation greyed out so it can't be changed. I've tried
every locally configured user, and administrator of the machine, as well as
2 or 3 different admin logins on the domain to which the xp machine belongs.
However, I can't change the log on locally policy as it is always greyed
out.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi,

This issue will occur if the Deny local login is enabled.

You can try the following suggestions to resolve it:

Suggestion 1
===========

If you can log on the problematic with domain account, use the following
steps:

1. Click Start, click Run and type "gpeidit.msc" in the box, and click OK.
2. Go to Computer configuration -> Windows Settings-> Security settings ->
Local policy.
3. Disable "Deny local login" policy.

Suggestion 2
==========

If you are unable to log on the computer, perform the following:

1. Boot to the Recovery console.

2.Type the following "copy c:\winnt\repair\security
c:\winnt\system32\config\security"

This reset the security policy to the backup created in the repair
directory during install.

Hope this helps!

I checked that, no good. The error is "Local security policy does not allow
you to log on interactively" or something very similar.

Thanks again for the help.

Hello Tim,

Thanks for your upgrade.

As for the current situation, please rename the Secedit.sdb and copy a good
copy.

1. Open the %Systemroot%\Security\Database folder.

2. Rename the Secedit.sdb file.

3. Copy a good copy from another good XP workstation.

4. Restart the computer.

I will be waiting for your reply.

Thanks & Regards
