Log in screen

I have a Dell L600r with 512 ram running XP (SP2)....the problem im having is
when i log off the computer and if its been long enough for the screen sceen
saver and possibly the monitor being powered down (screen saver set at 15m
and monitor set at 1.00)....when i move the mouse to wake up the computer the
log in screen is there but i cant type my password,the flashing curser isnt
in the password box.....i have to restart the computer and everything is
fine.....if i dont log off the computer there are no problems if the
screensaver is running........any help would be appreciated...Thx

What happens if you do ctrl-alt-del twice at the welcome screen? Does that
bring up the classic login dialog box, and can you type in it? If so type
in the user name and password.

Otherwise I don't know what else to suggest. Several people over the past
several months have reported this same problem with no clear solution.
