I have a Win 2K server that is hosting our Accounting software and little
else, when I try to log in now nothing appears on the desktop and I can't
install any software or use anything. Internet is gone, everything. It
functions fine as a server of our Accounting package and file server but I
can't administer at all. Please help!!

After logging in go to start run and enter explorer.exe and hit enter.

This should get you to the desktop so you can troubleshoot why explorer.exe
isn't starting.

Check that explorer.exe is the default shell to start. Look at the Reg_Sz
string value of;
"Shell"="Explorer.exe"
found at
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

The profile may also be corrupt so try creating a new account and logging on
with that or these may help you.

well with anothers login I can reach the desktop and move around but
everything freezes up or doesn't run. I can't install softward or run Admin
Utilities or any thing. I am considering doing an OS repair but am unsure of
the consequenses.

The Microsoft link actually put me on the right path. I booted into safe
mode and was unable to find the APC agent and server but I went into control
panel and uninstalled the APC software and then rebooted. Works fine now. I
would not have suspected the APC problem as I was not the one that installed
it. Thank you Dave very much for assistance. Take care.

Glad to hear it. You're welcome.
