I accidentaly, due to a child error, have been locked out of my syste
using Windows 2000 Professional. Apparently, the log in password wa
changed and I have no way of knowing what it is now! This is no
good

I know this is an XP thread, but I have always gotten great advice o
this forum so I figured it is worth a shot

Use NTpasswd to change the Administrator password to a blank. Then log
into that account and make desired changes.

You've gotten a good response by Malke, so I won't repeat that but for
future post to the Win200 group. Here is a list of MS public newsgroups:

Again, I am sorry for the thread mismatch.
I have copied the NTpasswrd file to CD and put it in the drive of th
locked computer, and I get nothing, it goes to the enter passwor
screen after startup. I don't see a chance to boot from disk o
anything like that
Perhaps I am overlooking something

ok, forgive me for my ignorance on this but, if writing the extracte
files to cd is not appropriate, then how do I turn this downloade
file into bootable cd

Wonderful. I guess this indicates the real security of the Windows
series OS.

No, it doesn't. It indicates your misunderstanding of how computer
security works. Any computer running any operating system can be
accessed by someone with 1) physical access; 2) time; 3) skill; 4)
tools. It has nothing to do with the operating system.

You didn't read the instructions on the site. You need to download
the .iso and create a bootable cd. You need third-party burning
software to burn an .iso. You can also download a file to create a
bootable floppy instead. You will not copy the file to a floppy but run
it to create the bootable floppy.

In either case, you will then boot with the media you created. You may
need to change the boot order in the BIOS accordingly.

If you find this too hard, then take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop. They will be able to get into your machine in
less than 5 minutes.

See my previous answer to you in this thread. If you are downloading
the .iso for the bootable cd, you need third-party burning software to
burn the .iso. It is an *image* that will create a bootable cd.

In case anyone is interested, I did fix the problem. No I never di
have success in creating a bootable CD, I did follow the instruction
on the site, perhaps my third party freeware was not on par
whatever

Anyway, my cousin's friend brought over a copy of Winternals and i
had me opened up in 10 minutes. That software is great

Thanks for your patience, everyone
