Lock format in a document?

Is it possible to "lock" a format in a document? I am attempting to e-mail a
document to another user and their Word program is over riding the formatting
in the document which is causing the document to be incorrectly formatted. I
am using 2003 and they are using 2000.

If the recipient doesn't need to edit the document, then you can convert it
to Acrobat PDF format and send the PDF. If the recipient needs the Word
file, then you and the recipient need to turn off "Automatically update" in
Word's style definitions. See
