What are the names of the windows xp registry files,and
where are they located.

Unless you have a disability, please have the courtesy to use upper/lower
case, as it is standard usage. Nobody wants to read all caps.

The actual files are those, without extensions, in the
windows\system32\config folder. EAch corresponds to one of the 'Hives'
Kelly mentions. To these are added the mntuser.dat from the
Documents and Settings\<currentuser>\ folder
which is the personal 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\' relating to that user.

You can only handle the registry through regedit.exe - but it may prove
useful to copy the .SAV copies back using a recovery console boot if the
registry becomes totally damaged. This puts you back to a 'when
installed' state, to allow a boot from which you can run system restore.
