local profile

please help i am a complete novice to xp i have just
loaded some new programs and now get this message when i
log on to my computer:

Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you
on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this
profile will be lost when you log off.

Probably your user account is corrupt. You can create a new user
account and copy settings from the old to the new.
