I was wondering id anyone could help me with this as I am getting nowhere fast

I have set up my broadband connection through a D-Link DSL-504 router and the internet works fine on both of the familys PC's

But, There is no possible way I can use my local network PCs to talk to each other or access the shared files folders, when I try to access the other PC I get a message saying it cant contact and I may not have the permissions contact the administrator

Does anyone know where I am going wrong, I have run the networking wizard numerous times and this does not help, I am sure there is a simple explanation!

Hi Stephen,

Do you have the Internet Connection Firewall turned on for either of the
machines? Depending on which network configuration you chose during the
wizard, it may have
turned this on. This will prevent it from being able to detect the other
machine and to have file sharing work. I don't know the specifics of your
router, but if it has a firewall protecting you from the internet, there
should not be any negative consequence to turning off the XP firewall.

Right click My Network Places - Properties. Right click your LAN connection
and select Properties. Click on the Advanced Tab. If the box is
checked, uncheck it.

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks.

Hi Dallas,

Please try the following:

Start - Run - services.msc
Scroll down to workstation and make sure that it is started.
