Loading XP Pro

I have a Dell system with XP Home loaded on it. I also have a copy of XP Pro
that I would like to install however; I get a message that states the current
OS is newer than the one you atr trying to load.
How can I get around this and put XP Pro on my system?

Hi

It seems as though you have SP2 installed and are trying to install a
previous of XP Pro. You can create a slipstreamed CD of SP2:

You can download the SP2 file (266 MBs) from here:

or if you have a copy of the SP2 CD, you can copy the xpsp2.exe file from
that CD onto your hard disk/partition and use that:

then follow the directions in the following article to create a slipstreamed
XP CD:

then re-try the XP Pro installation.

If you can get all of your personal data off the XP Home install and
re-installing the software that came with your copy of XP Home isn't an
issue, then I would recommend completely wiping out the drive and doing a
fresh install of XP Pro. You can get an XP fresh install boot disk from
www.bootdisk.com. I do this a lot with great success, but I usually don't
have to worry about losing any data or re-installing software.
