Hi,
hopefully someone can help me. I have an old omega
research program (stock analysis) purchased at
considerable expense in 1994. Have new laptop w/xp and
now rec an error msg (missng SSIACT386 file)can't load
program.
HELP

Thx much

Most likely a program from 10 years ago isn't going to run on xp. It may be
time to update to a xp compatable version of the program if available. Or
try the programs website, maybe they have a tweak or patch to get it to
work.

It sounds like a 16 bit VXD. XP doesn't support 16 bit vxds. Some programs work without their vxd (makes one ask why did they include it) but may lose some functionality.

Use a PC with an OS that can accommodate that application.

Sorry - a .386 extension strongly indicates that this was an old 16 bit
driver from Windows 3.1 days (when that program was written). XP will
positively *not* use such drivers. You would be better to keep a
separate FAT 32 partition on the machine, install Windows 98 (SE for
preference) into it and keep it for such needs until such time as you
can get a modern version. A 10 year life for a program is doing pretty
well, at the rate software develops
