I have a computer w xp home edition. I have win98se and
a upgrade CD for office 2000 and publisher 2000. I want
to load these so that I can use the office programs
(word, excel, etc.) When I put the win98 disc in the
drive, it tells me that I can not install it with xp
running and I need to go to MS'DOS mode. I brought up
the command prompt vut I don't know where to go from
there. Can any one help me? Is it a bad idea to try
and install it all anyway?
Thanks, Mary

The Office 2000 products will run on Windows XP, so there's no reason to
install Windows 98 first.

Also, you'll only qualify for the upgrade license for Office if you own a
qualifying product - typically an earlier version of Office. You'll want to
research that to make sure that you actually qualify for the upgrade
license.

Windows 98 SE is an "operating system" and is unrelated to
Office 2000. Since you have the "upgrade version" of
Office 2000, you cannot install it unless you have a previous
and older "qualifying product" which does not include
Windows 98 SE.

On a related thread...I have just installed (full install) XP Home edition
and am now trying to reinstall Office 2000. When I type in the registration
key from the back of my original Software pack it is not recognised as a
valid key.
Thanks
Rob
