Does Windows 2000 Professional make use of a file named Loader.exe which
resides in C:\Windows? If so, what is the function of that exe file? Also is
there any software available which can be used to search the Registry?

Thanks,

Arpan

It's probably a virus. Have a look on Google - there are almost
4000 references to it.

Hi Arpan,

You must be relatively new to registry entries and editing. The
registry is a dynamic database, and should not be dealt with
lightly. When ever you edit the registry, backup the section your
are changing first.

The command for general registry is regedit.exe. You access the
registry through a command prompt. There is no DOS in W2K. It
contains a command emulator, and different commands than DOS.

To backup a section of the registry you can export that section
before making any changes. When you first begin to do any changes it
is best to write them out longhand, rather than print-screen
etcetra.

To enter the registry do this: Click Start>Run...>"type" REGEDIT>
<enter>

Notices the sections of the registry. The one you will deal with
most are HKCU (HKey_Current_User), and HKLM (HKey_Local_Machine)

There are five sections. I suggest you go through each one just
looking. When you go through HKCU & HKLM, pay particular attention
to the software for applications, and Windows section for items
concerning the OS. Also you will need to know how to export a
section of registry you are intending to change, and Import that
same section back into it's original configuration.

I also suggest you go thru the help section to find the information
it has , so you can refer to it later, And do a search on Google
like"editing the Registry W2K"
