.lnk and .exe problem

All of my .exe files were switched with the exception of IE and some other
files. I ran updated Norton, Spybot, Ad-aware Pro, no-adware from safe mode
and all came up clean. System restore gave me some icons back but the .lnk
remained unchanged. I could access my registry from safe mode as well and
tried the fixes from Doug Knox and Kelly...didn't work. I also ran a cleaner
for Sasser worm...nope. How screwed am I?

If it helps I saw my computer getting hit on 1/10. I was working behind a
"secure" network and also running a very tight ZL pro firewall (I cant even
download without temporarily scaling down). Looking at a Halo Code sight my
Ad-aware Ad-watch popped up and I just got hammered. In the 10 seconds it
took to cut internet and close down to safe mode something hit my Ad-watch
435 times.

Obi-wan...ur my only hope....Thnx,
Rich

All of my .exe files have been replaced by dos icons and changes to .lnk paths.
I cannot access any programs from windows. In safe mode + command I can
access the registry but not in regular safe mode. I have no access to a
majority of my Windows components and can only reach programs through the
browse button of the run pompt. If I try running a program I get the "Open
As" propmt for text only.

Get File association fixes, from Doug Knox's
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

I have tried the fixes from dougknox and Kellys-Corner. I think I may be out
of my league and need to take my Laptop to the doctor :(

I found the cause of my problem. Ad-watch was damaged by a hack and it
completely "f"ed up my registry. I downloaded the linkfile_fix, xp_regfile,
folder_reg and xp_exe_fix and added them to registry in safe-mode/command.
Now I am almost back at 100%.
