Posted question yesterday morning regarding activity on floppy drive during
defragmentation. Looking for cause.

Post not found or reply. Use view and reply to my message and help using
subject line, "analyze & defragmentation", with no results.

Comments.

Hi, Stan.

Yes, your question from yesterday is there, along with responses from "Jake"
and "Maureen Goldman". If you can't see them, you probably need to adjust
your OE settings.

Click Tools | Options... On the Read tab, under News, the default is to
download 300 headers at a time. On an active newsgroup like this one (over
30,000 messages in the past month), that will not get all the traffic for a
single day! You can increase that to a maximum of 1,000 headers, or UNcheck
the box to get them ALL - but be forewarned: in an active newsgroup like
this one, it can take a long time to download them all, even with broadband.
To keep your news cache from overflowing your hard disk, click the
Maintenance tab and set the number of days to keep downloaded messages
before deleting them from your computer; I use 32 days, but that choice is
entirely up to you.

Also, of course, click View | Current View... | Show replies to my messages
(or just press Ctrl-H if your OE has the latest updates). This will show
only messages to or from yourself. (Or click on the From column header to
get all the "stans" grouped together.)

A final possibility is that you are reading this newsgroup through a news
server that simply "slurps" messages from the Microsoft public news server
and relays them - and the responses - to and fro. This can result in
messages that are delayed, out of sequence, or even lost. If you are not
already connected to the MS server, which is free and does not require you
to log on, click here:
nntp://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general

That should bring you right back here, but connected directly to the MS
server, (cutting out the middleman". ;<)
