Has anyone else had problems getting these two to run at 100Mbps. The
highest I can do is 10Mbps. Is there a basic incompatibility?

Hi

It is not clear what you are referring to.

Functional 100Mb/se, would work between two Wired computers that have
100Mb/sec. card s and are connected through the Router's Switch.

Wireless computer and the Internet will be restricted by their rated speed.

Jack (MVP-Networking).

I have the router connected to four computers. Wired. Three of the
computers connect at 100Mps. The new computer with the Intel Pro/1000MT
connection (a motherboard integrated megabit NIC) connects only at 10Mbps.
I have a new computer, and have updated the WRT54G to the latest firmware. I
have found some references to an incompatability between the Linksys WRT54G
and the Intel Pro/1000MT. http://hardware.mcse.ms/message9376.html While
they should work together they do not. Perhaps something about utilizing 4
weires by the Pro/1000MT to negotiate the speed, as opposed to two wires for
the other machines and their NICs. One thing for sure. Sony and Linksys do
not communicate with each other. Any t;houghts.

I replaced the older WRT54G with a new WRT GS, and the connection
immediately went to 100Mbps. Linksys had claimed the issue was with the NIC
of the Sony, but they were wrong. Seems as if they should have a firmware
update for their older WRT, but they won't even admit to an issue, so don't
hold your breath. I was happy to find out that my new machine was indeed
intact, and that I did not have to reformat the hard drive to resotre it to
the original software, just to prove to Sony that a service call was in
order. As I said, Sony and Linksys do not talk with each other. Hopefully
this post will save some others the trouble that I had to go through. If
this is so, please leave a response here so perhaps Sony, Intel, and Lynsys
will eventually get the word as well.

This was resolved by buying a newer WRT 54GS to replace the WRT54G.
Immediately connected at 100Mbps.
