Links Within A Presentation

I'm trying to create links between spreadsheet objects on two (or more)
PowerPoint slides.

Linking to an external Excel file isn't practical in this case; I need to be
able to create a spreadsheet object on Slide 1 that can be linked to a
spreadsheet object on Slide 2 such that, when the data on Slide 1 is updated,
the data on Slide 2 is automatically updated.

A cinch in Excel (linking cell references between tabs), but I can't figure
out how to do this in PowerPoint.

Thanks in advance for any assistance with this.

Each embedded Excel sheet in PPT is an independent object (a full copy of the
source XLS file, in fact, along with some other stuff). When you doubleclick to
edit it, PPT hands the embedded file off to Excel for editing, Excel hands it
back when done. Excel closes.

Given that, you can see that there's no linkage possible between two embedded
XLS files. It's like opening two different files in Excel, one at a time.

Thanks for the reply, Steve. That was the behavior I was observing, but I
was hopeful I was just missing something.

It seems like linking embedded objects between slides would be a handy
feature, if only it were a feature. :-)

I just realized something ... I can link two separate Excel files, so why
can't I link two separate Excel objects in PowerPoint?

In other words, one Excel file you have open updates from links to an external
Excel file? Sure. And your embedded Excel file in PPT could link to an external
XLS as well.

But you said linking to an external Excel file wasn't practical.

Changing the rules is against the rules. No fair! ;-)
