Thanks Smity, but now I have a new problem.

Having followed your suggestion, Excel now want me to
choose a "sheet to link to" upon opening this workbook.
It gives me a list of the sheets in the workbook I am
opening.

More advice please.

When opening a certain workbook, I must answer yes or no
as to whether I want to update this workbook with
information in another workbook.

What can I do to make this linkage go away?

I cannot find any references to data not developed within
the workbook I am trying to open. The EDIT LINK menu
tells me the name name of the other workbook [SOURCE
FILE], but will not allow me to delete the link. The ITEM
link is empty; the TYPE is listed as worksheet. The
AUTOMATIC button is on, but the switch to MANUAL is
unavailable.

This is EXCEL 2000 running under WinXP Pro - which is
proving rather unstable.
