When I click on the links in email messages nothing happens.
I'm using Outlook 2000 configured for corporate or workgroup use on Windows
2000.

There are quite a few things that can cause this. Here is one
possible solution:

You Cannot Open New Internet Explorer Window or Nothing
Happens After You Click a Link:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q281679&sd=tech

Try checking your Options:

Open your TOOLS menu in Outlook
Select OPTIONS...
Select the SECURITY tab

Check the "Zone" text box. If it is set for
RESTRICTED SITES change it to INTERNET

Set Internet Explorer As the Default Browser

To resolve the first cause, and to set Internet Explorer to be th
default Internet Browser, follow these steps:
1. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
2. Double click the Internet or Internet Options icon, and clic
Programs.
3. Ensure that "Internet Explorer should check to see if it is th
default" is selected, click Apply, and then click OK.
4. Open internet Explorer, and then click Yes when you receive th
following prompt.

Internet Explorer is not currently your default browser. Do you wish t
make it the default?

Links in e-mail messages should then open Internet Explorer.

1. On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and the
click Windows Explorer.
2. Click Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click File Types.
3. In the "Registered File Types" box, click "URL:File Transfe
Protocol", and then click Advanced.
4. In the Actions box, click Open, and then click Advanced.
5. The "Application Used To Perform Action" box may display the path t
your Web browser as a short file name or an incorrect path. Type th
path to your Web browser using the full file name. For example
change:
"c:\progra~1\intern~1\iexplore.exe" (without the quotation marks)
-to-
"c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe" (including th
quotation marks).
6. Click OK, and then click Close.
7. Repeat steps 3-6 for the following registered file types:
- URL:Gopher Protocol
- URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol
- URL:Hypertext Transfer protocol with Privacy
- URL:Internet Shortcut
8. Click Close

I've only gone as far as following your first suggestion and am able to open
links from within Outlook. Thank you very much. I was starting to prepare
myself for having to rebuild my machine. You've saved me a bunch of work.
