Links in AOL email don't work

The links in emails I receive on AOL do not work. They are blue/underlined and my mail settings are correct. I've been in contact with AOL techs for weeks now -- they don't know what the problem is . . . obviously. I've reinstalled the software, gone through numerous AOL "computer checkups," deleted STYLE files, etc. etc. Has anyone else had this problem? Are there settings I should be checking in Internet Explorer

Also, when I sign off AOL, I receive numerous messages asking if I want to "Work Offline"? What setting can I change in Internet Explorer to make this go away

Thanks.

AOL is not part of Windows XP.

Please feel free to visit an AOL Technical Support for assistance with AOL.
You shouldn't be on hold for more than four of five hours before someone
answers your call.

I have AOL 9 with XP home (SP-1 plus critical updates) and blue hyperlinks
work fine, so that is not a bug in AOL.

Look at your mail settings, general tab. In AOL 9 there is a setting called
"Hide images & disable links in mail from unknown senders". If this is
checked it is unlikely that hyperlinks will work.

Otherwise, here are so thoughts, of things to try include:

First, get SP-1 for XP, all critical updates, and all non-critical updates
that pertain to IE6 or sound in any way related to the internet.

Next, install AOL 9 form a CD, with are free at many computer stores. he CD
is more complete than is the download, and it is much faster, if you use a
modem. Be sure to install in a new directory. It should copy all settings,
mail, etc for you.

Run AOL for a minute or so, then log off, letting AOL self-update. Do this
again, until it tops ownloading updates.

Now try clicking a hyperlink.

If it still fails, then ask whether you have a software firewall (or
hardware router) and whether it has some settings that might impact this.

I assume that you are the "master user" in AOL jargon. Be sure that you
have full adult privelege. That should be the default for the master user,
but check anyway.

Chek your anti-virus software. Sometimes these well-intentioned programs
diable things that you would not expect.
