linking worksheets (ex. =sheet1!A2)

What I want to do seems so simple but Excel is doing some
weird stuff and I'm stumped. I'm starting with two
worksheets. The first is my raw data template. The
second is my summary page, made up of simple formulas,
many of which are referencing cells from the raw data
worksheet such as(=detail!B2). This initial setup works
fine. What I want to do now is re-use the detail
worksheet to produce multiple summary pages for individual
products. My method was this:
1. Make copy of summary worksheet
2. Rename new worksheet
3. "Paste Special-Values" in original summary to maintain
data, but eliminate formulas
4. Then paste in new data into the detail worksheet over
top of the old data, thus creating a new summary page
displaying new data
5. Repeat for all items

What's happening is weird. When I go through these steps
my new summary worksheet reflects what was on the original
detail worksheet--even though the cells in the detail
worksheet contains different data. For example, the
original detail worksheet in cell B2 had 15.5. After
pasting in the new data into the detail worksheet B2
contains 10.5--and although the summary page is still
displaying the same formula (=detail!B2), it still shows
up as 15.5, even though "detail!B2" now contains 10.5!
I'm stumped. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Jeff,
If you simply use Paste or Paste Special, all you will get
are static values that do not change when other detail
data changes. I would make sure the new summary sheet's
cells contain formulas referencing the cells in the Detail
worksheet (or referencing another summary sheet), e.g.
='Sheet1'!A1 on new summary sheet.
