Linking to .htm page using url in presentation on our intranet

This is driving me absolutely crazy!! Every time I try to link to anything, I
save the Powerpoint presentation, go test it on a coworker's machine, and the
url keeps truncating and looking for the file/link on the user's c: drive!
I've been dealing with this problem with document links, links to a video,
and now a link to a url, and the same thing keeps happening! The lesson I've
learned is to never use Powerpoint on the intranet, at least not for what
we're using it for! Does this make sense? Does anyone know how to work
around it? Saving as html isn't an option, the presentation doesn't work
correctly when I do that.

Your links are breaking. If you are trying to link to a shared/mapped drive, it
probably isn't going to work. The linked files should be saved to your hard
drive (in the same folder as the presentation) and then delete and re-insert the
links. When you move the presentation, you'll want to move the entire folder.

See:
Sounds/Movies don't play, images disappear or links break when I move or email a
presentation

Let's back up and look at the specifics.

You're editing a PPT file that's been saved at least once, is that correct?
Where? To your HDD, a network drive, the intranet?

You add a link to a video. How? What's the exact sequence of steps you follow?
Where is the video file located?

Where's the PPT file when you test it on the co-worker's computer?
How do you open it there?

What's the url to the video when you rightclick, Hyperlink, Edit Hyperlink?

Your links are breaking. If you are trying to link to a shared/mapped drive, it
probably isn't going to work.

As long as the mapping is the same on both computers or the links are to the same
UNC path ( ie, \\ComputerName\ShareName\Folder\File.ext ) and everything's
accessible from both computers, the links should be ok.

Lots of ifs.

But it sounds as though maybe that's what rizakag's trying to accomplish (I'm
guessing at this 'cause of the reference to intranet).

If all the bits are right, it can work, but ISTR there's some goofy bug that makes
it fall over when you use a hyperlink base. Where ARE the gray cells when I need
them???
