Got a PC running XP and linked to the net via broadband. Want to link my dell
latitude laptop to it to share files. Got a cross-over cable and plugged it
in. Ran network set-up wizard on the PC. Went to run it on the laptop and it
said it belongs to a domain and can't do it. I use it for freelance writing
and it's been added to a domain that I work at regularly in house.

All I want to do is link the two computers. Anyone any ideas. BTW try not
toget too heavy on the IT. It took me ten minutes to work out how to type in
a question on this site. TAPS.

Cheers

Your laptop has XP Home. Home cannot join a domain, only a workgroup. You
can either create a workgroup for the two computers, or upgrade the Latitude
to XP Pro.

Right click on my computer on your PC, select properties, click on the
Computer Name tab and make a note of the Workgroup name.

Repeat process on your Laptop but click on the change button at the bottom.
Select Workgroup: and type in the name.

Keep a note of the Domain name so you can put it back when you work in
house.
