How do I link a caption to a picture so that if I move the picture the
caption goes with it?

Thank you.

Hi, Bill. I've always created a style for my pictures, with appropriate
paragraph spacing, centering...everything. Then I also apply Keep with Next
with that style. That way, if my caption is the next paragraph, all I need
to do is format my graphic with my graphic style and it automatically sticks
with its caption.

I haven't the slightes idea what you are talking about. I am fairly new to
Word. All I want to do is keep the caption with the picture, and I have a
bunch of pictures
I want to do this with.

Try right clicking on the object and selecting caption. This caption should
stay with your picture.

I tried this and it did not work for keeping the caption with the picture.
It creates a numbering scheme for the captions.

Bill, since you are new to Word, here's how you can do this without learning
styles.

1. Turn on your paragraph marks so you can see what you are doing. (If you
don't know what that is, look for the backwards capital P (¶) in the standard
toolbar. It is just to the left of the zoom percent number.)
2. Go to the top of your document and click on the first picture.
3. Click Format > Paragraph and select the "Line and Page Breaks" tab
4. Click the box for "Keep with next" and click OK
5. You should see a black square appear to the left of the picture. This
indicates that the "keep with next" has been turned on. It will NOT print.

Next you wan to copy that formatting to all the other pictures. You have to
select the whole paragraph with the picture to do this.

1. Rest your mouse in the white space in the left margin beside the picture
you just formatted., till your mouse pointer looks like an arrow that points
up to the 1 o'clock position.
2. Click. You should see the whole picture and the ¶ all selected with
black.
3. Double click the paintbrush button in the standard toolbar. This is the
Format Painter.
4. Scroll through the document. Each time you come to a picture that needs
the "keep with next", rest your mouse in the left margin to get the "1
o'clock arrow." When you click, you will see the black square appear to the
left of the picture.
5. After you format the last picture, click the paintbrush or hit the ESC
key on your keyboard to turn off the format painter.

Styles are the better way to do things like this. When you become a bit
more comfortable with Word, try taking a look at this MS training page:

Hope this helps.
