Sometime ago I built a database which uses an EXCEL spreadsheet for one of
the tables through the Link Table command. For the last year or so
everything has worked fine but now the table will not read the latest added
rows to the spreadsheet. The formatting in the spreadsheet has not changed.
Is there a limit as to how many rows a linked table will "read"?

Thanks for any help/suggestions

John:

What version of Access and Excel are you using?

Yes, I believe Excel97 has a limit of 8000 rows. Later versions have a limit
of 64,000 rows.

I am using ACCESS97 and EXCEL 2000.
When my Excel sheet data exceeds 1683 rows, data in row 1684 and beyond are
not visible in the linked table. Could there be a restriction in ACCESS?

John:

The following KB article says it applies to Access 2000, but it may be worth
a look.

David, Thanks for the suggestion. I read the article but it didn't seem to
solve anything. My spreadsheet has never had a named range. I did create
one as per the article and made it large enough to cover all the data, but
still only 1683 lines/rows of data were visible.
The only way all data is visible is when I do the following:
Open the Excel spreadsheet which holds the data;
Open Access and open the linked table.
All data visible.

BUT when I close the table (keeping Access still open), close the
spreadsheet and then reopen the table, only 1683 rows/lines are visible.

It seems to me that I have reached some sort of barrier or maximum but I
don't know if it the solution is in Excel or Access.
Any additional thoughts?
