Linked files and file protection.

I have some 50 individual workbooks that provide information to a single
Report workbook. All files need to be open protected. The
application works fine except that the Report file prompts for the
password for each of the 50 linked files when opened with links
updating, which is pretty tedious and not necessary. Is there a way of
overriding this. It occurs to me that a possibility may be to open
Report without updating links, and then update links with a macro with
passwords embedded. But my macro skills are not quite up to this!

About the closest thing you can do in VBA for the passwords is to keep track of
them and use sendkeys to enter them in the dialog that pops up.

Here's a link with a small example that uses the same password for all the
linked files:

Thank you for the thread, Dave. And the warning. I guess that I will
be safest just entering the passwords.
